MEDIA RELEASE: Cape Town Festival of Running – Online Entries Are Closing Soon
(Cape Town, 12 September 2016) Online entries for the Cape Town Festival of Running will close on 19 September 2017.
The event comprises a series of Ultra and shorter distances, and is scheduled to take place on 24 and 25 September 2016.
Organised by the Hewat Athletics Club, the Cape Town Festival of Running hosts a number of exciting running events (walkers are welcome too), including the longest road race distance in Cape Town:
- 100km Ultra
- 50km mini-Ultra
- 5 x 5km Team Relay
- 21.1km Cape Town Classic Half (taking place on 25 September 2016
The Ultra distances and relay will take place in a unique loop format along the picturesque Sea Point Promenade and Beach Road.
The 100km and 50km Ultras are both official qualifiers for the 2017 Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, as well as the 2017 Comrades Marathon.
The Cape Town Festival of Running is endorsed by the Two Oceans Marathon Initiative (TOMI) as part of TOMI’s dedication to supporting the community and promoting the development of running – and especially Ultra distance running – in the Western Cape.
“But this event doesn’t just cater for those grizzled Ultra runners who thrive on long distances,” says Kanu Sukha, who has been organising the Cape Town Festival of Running for the past 18 years.
“A 5 x 5km team relay will add some speedy fun to Saturday’s Ultra running, and we invite families, friends and businesses to form teams and participate.
“Sunday, 25 September, will be all about the Half Marathon, and we expect to see a great turnout at the popular Cape Town Classic Half Marathon, which sees participants run along a section of the scenic 12 Apostles coastal route.”
The loop course is flat and fast, while the Half Marathon route is gently undulating, and the weekend caters for runners and walkers of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels.
All finishers will receive a medal, while the 100km and 50km Ultra runners who pre-enter by 19 September will each receive an exclusive Cape Town Festival of Running commemorative long-sleeve shirt.
